The National Maritime Museum does not charge an admission fee and does permit non-flash photography.
The plaque accompanying this sculpture reads:

"'Neptune' figurehead
probably 19th century

This figurehead probablyrepresents Neptune,
the Rpman god of the sea, but its origin is unknown."

Neptune, although similar to the Greek Poseiden, differed because, in addition to the seas, Neptune also ruled over fresh waters and also served as the god of horses. Read more about him at (visit link)
