The rail line here was originally part of the Bay of Quinte(BQ) Railway, which connected the Napanee, Tamworth, and Quebec (which was started in 1879 but only ever was built as far as Tamworth) to the Grand Trunk. In 1889 they extended the line to the Kingston & Pembroke in order to gain access to Kingston, and in 1893 further to the mica mines near Sydenham. In 1902 a branch line was established from Yarker to Queensborough & Bannockburn to connect to the Central Ontario Railway.
By 1910 the BQ was in bad times financially, and was absorbed by the Canadian Northern Railway, in turn to be absorbed by CNR. Parts of the line were closed, with the Napanee-Ottawa line closing by 1978. Most of this line now forms part of the Cataraqui Trail.
Depending on how you got here, you're either on the trail or looking up at it from County Road 6.
Slightly to the north you can see the abutments of the original bridge - this one was added later during the straightening of the line after the addition of the Queensborough/Bannockburn branch.
