When you live in a semi-arid or arid area such Colorado, you know about irrigation and water rights. Centennial Park (visit link) in Rifle features a miniature Parshall Measuring Flume as part of the water park features. While the park was closed for the season, there is a nearby gate where visitors may control the amount of water that passes through the flume.

(visit link) for a plaque honoring Ralph L. Parshall who developed this flume in 1921 at Colorado Agricultural College's (now Colorado State University) hydrology lab in Fort Collins, Colorado, USA.

Briefly explain if the experiment was effective for you. Could it have been better?:
I was blown away to find an interactive Parshall flume at this large community park on the Western slope of Colorado in Rifle. While the water was shut off for the winter, I could easily understand how this experiment would work to explore the flume. The flume is sandblasted http://www.hannasandblasting.com/Photo/Projects/pages/centennialparkrifle11.php with text explaining the features of the flume that make it work so effectively.

When is the apparatus/experiment available to the public:
Spring (after frost) to Fall (before frost); hours vary by day - visit http://www.rifleco.org/index.aspx?NID=93 for hours.
