"High above the Ottawa River, Nepean Point is nestled on a hill that overlooks the Ottawa River. It features a great view of Parliament Hill, the Rideal Canal Locks as well as a distant view of Gatineau, Quebec. Regardless of the season or the time of day, Nepean Point offers a beautiful 360-degree view.
Prominent on Nepean Point is a large statue of French explorer Samuel de Champlain. After all, it was Champlain who first explored the Ottawa River in 1613. . In 1967, a small amphitheatre, known as the Astrolabe Theatre and named after the navigational instrument Champlain holds in his hand, was created to better view the sound and light show for Canada’s centennial.
The Astrolabe Theatre has a large outdoor stage and bench seating that stretches down the hill. The stage is used for performances and festivals in the summer months. Set against the backdrop of the Parliament Hill, the theatre seats 700 and provides both entertainment and beauty."
