Building Traditions, Educating Generations: A History of The University of Central Oklahoma is a very informative book. The book is divided into ten chapters:
1. Building Traditions
2. Early Development
3. The 1920's and the Great Depression
4. The War Years
5. The 1950's
6. The Building Years
7. The 1960's
8. Becoming a University
9. The 1980's
10. Educating Generations

The authors do an outstanding job of including photos showing the students, sports teams, clubs, band, and buildings as they looked at the turn of the century. A 1900 photo of Old North (the oldest building on campus) blanketed in snow is shown in chapter one. Seeing photos of the early sports teams and the outfits they wore and fields they played on was a real treat.

Chapters include biographies on the men and women who helped shape the university, in both academics, sports, and leadership. You will learn who the buildings on campus are named after, and what those men and women did to be awarded such recognition. UCO's numerous awards and accolades are detailed in the book as well.

Two of the book's chapters discuss UCO's role in preparing men and women for service in the war. The ROTC building is located on the east side of Broncho Lake. Early on during the war, the attic of Old North was used as temporary barracks while the men trained for service.

This book of the history of UCO is a must-read for anyone who has attended the school, taught at the school, or for those in the community wishing to learn how the university has changed in its first 117 years.
