"The Ocean company was formed in 1887 by David Davies who spotted the chance to buy land in the Rhondda Valley and sunk coal mines there.

At one time the company employed almost 10,000 men and produced almost 3m tons of coal a year.

Originally based in Treorchy the company moved to offices at 11Bute Crescent in the heart fo Cardiff Docks."
