Avangard is the home of the Zakarpattia Uzhgorod Football Club. Although it is owned by the city of Uzhgorod, the football club signed a 20 year lease in 2012. The stadium holds 12,000 people and was built in 1952, renovated in 2005.
On April 29, 1992, the Ukrainian National Football Team played its first international game after Ukrainian independence against Hungary in Avangard Stadium. Unfortunately they lost 1-3.
