Monumento á Junta Revolucionária is a work by the Portuguese artist Helder Batista.
The monument is an Hommage to Loures Revolutionary Committee, a group of 8 Loures citizens nominated by the population that ocupied the local city hall and hoisted the Republican Flag during the revolution that overthrow of the Monarchy in 1910.
These eight citizens were Augusto Moreira Feio, pharmaceutical; Manuel Marques Raso, baker; Jacinto Duarte, City Hall Worker; José Joaquim Veiga, Finance Clerk; Joaquim Augusto Dias, merchant; António Rodrigues Ascenso, jeweler and watch repairman; José Paulo Oliveira, merchant and alderman; and José Ferreira Cleto.
The monument is a Corten steel sculpture representing what seems like a colapsing structure. Probably the monarchy.
Helder Batista is a Portuguese artist. He was born in Vendas Novas in 1932.
He has a degree in Arts by Lisbon´s University Fine Arts School. He has studied in Lisbon, Rome, Milan and Mexico. He was a professor in several high schools in Portugal and in Lisbon´s Fine Arts School for 33 years.
He has participated in several individual and collectiv exhibitions in Portugal and abroad.
He has been working mainly in sculpture but is also known for his work in coin and medal engraving.
