Union Noose Tightening #19 Sign/Marker, John Hunt Morgan Heritage Trail 1863 in Indiana: When General Morgan approached Pierceville a message was sent to Indiana Governor Oliver P. Morton warning him of the impending situation. In 1863, SR 350 was a railroad bed and Morgan's Raiders had sent detachments west of this location to burn railroad bridges in an attempt to slow Union soldiers, who were traveling by train. Also, General Edward H. Hobson's troops were just four hours behind Morgan. Morgan's troops moved north just beyond this spot to elude the pursuing Union forces.
