John Hunt Morgan's Code of Honor #18 Sign/Marker John Hunt Morgan Heritage Trail 1863 in Indiana: Morgan's Raiders arrived in Versailles at 1 p.m. on Sunday July 12, 1863. Versaiilles was plundered that afternoon by Morgan's men. They robbed the county treasury, as well as taking fresh horses; they also captured and paroled 300 men, who had assembled in hopes of defending Versailles. One of Morgan's men robbed jewelry from the local Masonic Lodge; Genearl Morgan, a Mason himself, orderd the jewellry to be returned and reprimanded the theif. Morgan's Raiders did not stay in Versailles long, leaving in several directions at 4 p.m "with orders to converge at present day St. Pual" - Union forces pursuing Morgan arrived just 4 hours later.
