By both the name and the topography it is easy to think this is not a rails to trails. At the lower starting point there is about an 9% grade starting from the road. Quickly this levels out.

This rails to trails can quickly be ignored based on the name, Clayburn Creek Trail, and the first 100 meters where this is about an 9% grade. However, at the lower starting the trail is about 30' below where a trestle cross the Poignant Creek ravine.

Running about 2.5 km, this trail was originally a narrow gauge mining railway bring clay from the top of the mountain down to the village of Clayburn where an extensive clay brick plant was. The plant and the railway ran from about 1905 until 1930.

In the 2000s the railbed was utilized for a sewerage project for the Auguston neighbourhood.
