This 2-1/2 story frame dwelling at 1016 W. Warner is occupied as The Stone Lion Inn, a bed and breakfast which offers mystery dinners for guests. This is a beautiful Victorian home representing Territorial life in Guthrie at the time of statehood.
The ghost which has been encountered here is said to be an 8-yr. old girl named Augusta who died in this home, after being given some medication for whooping cough. Stories of Augusta tell of her running through the halls, and guests have reported that she plays on the bed in their room. Augusta has never been seen by hotel guests, but can be sensed.
F.E. Houghton, the original owner of the home has been seen a few times in the basement and throughout the house. A faint smell of pipe tobacco has also been witnessed.
The Oklahoma City Ghost Club has encountered several possible paranormal events here, and the group, Ghost Haunts of Oklahoma and Urban Legend Investigations (GHOULI), has also investigated with positive results. (
