I wasn't aware of this fort until I passed in the nearby "desert highway" in my way to Wadi Rum. I couldn't visit as I missed the exit bu in my way back to Amman I stopped there. It was exciting! It's exactly like a toy fort I had when I was a kid, produced by "Airfix"! It was like I was entering a Toy Story movie.
This fort was built in the third decade of 16th century to offer support and protection to the pilgrims heading to Mecca. It's built with sandstone and basalt extracted from local quarries.
I read that sometimes the fort is closed. When I was there, the gate was wide open and there was nobody around.
