The
San Tomas Aquino/Saratoga Creek Trail is a 12.3-mile shared use path designed to be a connector between the San Francisco Bay Trail and the Bay Area Ridge Trail. The Bay Trail follows the coastline, while the Ridge Trail follows the surrounding mountain tops.
The trail was designed in four section and this relief art lies along Reach 1, which stretches from the Bay Trail to Agnew Road. All intersections with major roads have undercrossings so trail users can avoid busy streets.
There are three undercrossings along the way of the San Tomas Aquino Creek Trail that features relief art. This one goes under Great America Boulevard in Santa Clara and extends for over 120 feet. The concrete panels alongside the trail are each about 10-11 feet long and depict the wildlife and habitat of the creek. The panels are grouped together to indicate ecological relationships.
