The obelisk celebrates the 300 years of the founding of the village of Ubatuba. The obelisk is about 9 ft tall and sits in front of the main church. The plaque reads:

"Celebrando o terceiro centenário da criação da villa de Ubatuba. O estado de São Paulo, por seu governador, Dr. J Cardozo de Mello Neto, reafirma ao berço da Paz de Iperoig, A atalaia praiana colonial. Ao grande porto cafeeiro oitocentista, quanto se orgulha de sua tradição ilustre 28 de outubro de 1937.

"To celebrate the third centenary of the creation of the town of Ubatuba. The state of São Paulo, for its governor, Dr. J Cardoso de Mello Neto, reaffirms the cradle of Peace Iperoig, The seaside colonial watchtower. To the great nineteenth-century coffee port, the is proud of its illustrious tradition October 28, 1937.
