Historically the Fox River was a well traveled waterway for both commercial and recreational traffic. Starting in the mid 1800's and ending in the 1980s the Fox River throughout the Fox Valley was navigated by a system of bridges like this one as well as locks to help navigate the waters. Recently this has whole system has seen a resurrection and started to be restored so it can be used by recreational traffic once again.
