The brewery Sarajevska was founded in 1864, marking the beginning of industrial age in the region (it was not a country by then).

By the end of 19th century, production at the Sarajevo brewery reached 22000 hl, prior the First World War production was at 116000 hl and in 1916 – it has climbed to 150000 hl. From 1965 to 1980, Sarajevo brewery has recorded a steady growth that dropped in period from 1980 to 1984.

During the former Yoguslavia wars it played an important role to the population of Sarajevo, being the only place where people could retrieve drinkable water, taken directly from the springs where the brewery stands.
