MY0788: E 41 (USC&GS/NGS, Bedford, NH) - U.S. Benchmarks on Waymarking.com

This station, a U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey standard bench mark disk, is located in Bedford, NH. It is set in a ledge outcrop off the south side of Walsch Road, just southwest from the junction of Walsch Road and New Boston Road. The NHDOT datasheet has the best description for this mark, as follows:

THE STATION IS LOCATED IN BEDFORD.TO REACH THE STATION FROM THE JUNCTION OF STATE ROUTES 101 AND 114 IN BEDFORD, GO WEST FOR 0.7 MI (1.1 KM) ON ROUTE 114 TO THE JUNCTION OF DONALD STREET AND NEW BOSTON ROAD. TURN LEFT AND GO SOUTH FOR 4.9 MI (7.9 KM) ON NEW BOSTON ROAD TO THE JUNCTION OF WALSCH ROAD. TURN LEFT AND GO SOUTHWEST FOR 190 FT (57.9 M) ON WALSCH ROAD TO THE STATION ON THE LEFT. ALSO FROM THE NEW BOSTON/BEDFORD TOWN LINE, GO EAST FOR 0.8 MI (1.3 KM) ON NEW BOSTON ROAD TO THE JUNCTION OF WALSCH ROAD. TURN RIGHT AND GO SOUTHWEST FOR 190 FT (57.9 M) TO THE STATION ON THE LEFT.THE STATION IS A STANDARD USCGS DISK STAMPED--E 41--, SET INTO THE TOP OF A 15-FT X 9-FT X 2-FT HIGH LEDGE OUTCROP COVERED WITH LEAVES AND DEBRIS IN A WOODED AREA, AND LEVEL WITH THE ROAD. 47.5 FT (14.5 M) SOUTHEAST FROM THE CENTER OF WALSCH ROAD, AND 61.5 FT (18.7 M) SOUTHEAST AND DIRECTLY ACROSS THE ROAD FROM POWER POLE PSNH/31/3/NET 1/141.

The NGS description has inadequecies that have proved confusing during recovery attempts in the past. A revision has been submitted to NGS at the time of this posting.

In spite of the warning pertaining to leaves and debris in the NHDOT description, the mark was clearly visible and clear of debris. An old grading stake was laying across the outcrop also.
