Horice is nicknamed „a town of stone beauty". The Horice sandstone has a very good reputations and it was even used for the construction of the St Vitus Cathedral on the Prague Castle. The stonemason tradition is continued by the stonemasons and sculptors school. One of the works of profesors and students of local Sculptor's School is depicted on the Tourist stamp No. 564 - it is Portal (gate) of the New Cemetery on the Gothard Hill above the city, which was made in 1892–1905.

Horice jsou prezdívány mesto kamenné krásy. Zdejší pískovec získal již pred mnoha staletími povest pevného a kvalitního stavebního materiálu a napríklad cásti katedrály Sv.Víta pocházejí práve z horického pískovce. V místní tradici pokracuje i kamenická a socharská škola. Jedna z praci mistni socharske skoly je zobrazena i na prezentovane turisticke znamce. Je to monumentální vstupní brána do nového hrbitova, kterou navrhli profesori Bohuslav Moravec a Antonín Cechner, ucitelé horické Socharské školy. Socharská výzdoba je podle návrhu Morice Cernila a Quido Kociána. Výstavba portálu trvala 13 let (1892-1905).
