Views of almost the entire eastern half of the Sydney region may be had from the summit which is approximately 152 metres above sea level. Views extend from the southern outskirts of Sydney, west to the Blue Mountains and north to Gosford and the Central Coast. The skyline of the city is to the south.
The lookout is popular with locals on New Year's Eve when the firework displays across Sydney Harbour are clearly visible, approximately 11 kilometres to the south. The lookout is reached via Warringah Road. There is a small parking area adjacent to the road with stairs leading to a pathway and the summit.
Visited on 2 January 2012 and there was plenty of evidence of New Years Eve Celebrations in the area. A pity as it is a really nice spot.
A Plaque at the site reads -
This look-out was named after Captain Arthur Phillip who was appointed Australia's first ever Captain General and Governor-in-Chief in and over His Majesty's Territory of New South Wales (1788-1792)
This man of vision and talent was also responsible for the successful leadership and arrival of the "First Fleet" with eleven ships and 1350 people.
Governor Phillip Lookout was so named to commemorate his journeys of exploration north of Sydney Harbour.
