"William Burgess of Colorado Springs, Colorado created this sculpture in 1987. On the spring and fall equinoxes the shadows created by the sculpture line up with marks on the wall behind it. It was commissioned for Mesa College and the citizens of Colorado by the State Art in Public Places Program of the Colorado Council on the Arts." (from Mesa State College [now Colorado Mesa University] Walking Tour.)
