Novel plans to jazz up the town clock in Machynlleth by putting a piano underneath it have received ‘broad support’ from the town council.

Phil Wheeler, owner of the Organic Tex-tile Company on Maengwyn Street, said he decided to put the idea forward to provide a ‘focus’ for visitors and locals during the summer months.
But councillors have warned that access issues and health and safety concerns would need to be addressed first before the plans could go ahead.
Mr Wheeler said: “We think having a piano under the clock for people to play and enjoy would bring character and fun to the area, and encourage people to go to that part of town, have a tinkle, listen to impromptu concerts and bring music into the streets, without it being amplified or intrusive.
“We have arranged performances there in the past"
“The piano would be fixed and protected by an outer casing which would be lockable.”
