Long Description:In description of University Park in downtown Indianapolis is the following:
Occupying a central position is a STATUE OF SCHUYLER COLFAX, unveiled in 1887. This, the oldest statue in the city, is the work of Lorado Taft. - Indiana: A Guide to the Hoosier State, Indianapolis section, pg. 218.
The statue remains in the position described. It was originally located in the southwest corner of the park and was moved to this location in 1919. The statue is of form Vice President Schuyler Colfax who served during the presidency of President Ulysses S. Grant. The sculpture is a bronze life-sized statue standing on a multi-tiered granite base.
