Gorseinon Fire Station is staffed by Retained Duty System personnel. There are currently 12 Firefighters, 2 Crew Managers and a Watch Manager. The staff are all from the local community and respond to the station when their alerter sounds. The jobs that the staff carry out normally vary from Postmen to Senior Managers in the local industry.
The Station is crewed 24hours a day 365 days of the year.
The crews attend the Station on a Wednesday night from 18:30hrs – 20:30hrs for their weekly
training session.
Appliance Information
Gorseinon fire station has:
1 fire engine with dedicated rescue equipment – this is known as a rescue pump. The appliance
is a Scania P94D-JDC which was brought into the Service in 2000.
Location
Gorseinon Fire Station was built in the 1960’s in the former Swansea Fire Brigade and is a single
story building with two appliance bays. The Station has been fortunate enough to have their old
lecture room converted into a fully functional Community Room.
The Station covers the busy Swansea suburbs and the communities of Gorseinon, Loughour,
Gowerton, Penclawdd and Penllaegaer.
Risks
The main risk for Gorseinon and its surrounding communities are the A and B road networks
leading to Carmarthen as well as the trunk roads. The M4 motorway also passes through the
North end of the Station ground.
Gorseinon and its surrounding communities are predominately of average risk for domestic
housing with a few areas of above average risk. Gorseinon has a shopping area with numerous
public houses and hotels. The town also has other risks which include hospitals, large colleges,
comprehensive schools and a railway station. The river Loughour flows through the ground and
the Station personnel have a long close working relationship with the Loughour Inshore Life Boat Crew."
