The placard accompanying this statue reads:

"Statue of the Buddha

This statue of the young Buddha was
was donated to the Museuum by the London
Buddhist Vihara. Established in 1926, by
monks from Sri Lanka, the Vihara is now
located in Chiswick and is a centre for
the Theravada branch of Buddhism.

The monks chose the statue to represent
their lives in London: a Buddha image
can be used to evoke in our minds
the supreme qualities of wisdom and
compassion which we strive to emulate."

The statue is gold-colored and depicts the Buddha seated in the lotus position. Read more about Buddha at (visit link)
