This sign tells of the Methodist Church that was once near this location. The plaque reads:
"Mount Pleasant Methodist Church
The development of Mount Pleasant has been marked by a strong presence of churches in the area. The church in the photo above was erected at the north-west corner of 10th Avenue and Ontario Street in 1905 to replace the original 1890 church at Broadway and Main Street which was torn down to make room for the Lee building. With the formation of the United Church in 1925, Mount Pleasant Methodist Church was renamed Chown United.
In 1934 it was completely destroyed by fire and the Alliance Tabernacle was then built on the old stone foundation. A new Chown United was built at 19th Avenue and Cambie Street."
