The Sun Yat-sen Memorial Park was built in 1989 and inaugurated by the Maui Hua Ren 200 Committee of the Governor’s Commission Commemorating the Chinese Bicentennial. Land for the park was donated by the Baldwin family. The peace pole was dedicated in November 2005 in a ceremony attended by Maui Chinese Club members and Mayor Alan Arakawa.

The park includes a garden guarded by two stone lions, which were donated by Ping Tung county. A statue of Sun Yat-sen was donated by the people of Taiwan and overlooks the former site of his older brother’s ranch house.
