The building was built in 1933 for the United States post Office. After the new post office was built in 1989, The Board of Fremont County commissioners purchased the building from the U.S. Postal Service. In turn arranged for the Fremont Center of the arts to lease the building with the option to purchase. In January 1992, the FCA moved into the building and completed payment on the price set by the county. The deed was recorded on August 8, 2000.
The gallery has high ceilings with tall windows, providing an airy and comfortable setting. On the main floor along with the gallery, a room displays part of a permanent collection, which is rotated throughout the year.
Today its permanent collection contains more than 150 pieces. Throughout the collection and exhibition's, the FCA acknowledges the local artist community, which is the constituency upon which it was founded. Many of the center's collections include the work of many local and regional artists.
