The School
This building was once an elementary school, and nowadays houses the headquarters of the Interpretive Center of the PNSAC (Parque Natural das Serras de Aire e Candeeiros - Serras de Aire e Candeeiros Natural Park).
The building was refurbished recently, but it's still quite present the architectural features of the old school, very characteristic and similar to all other elementary schools built in the beginning of the 20th century throughout the country.
Natural Park - PNSAC
The Aire and Candeeiros moutain ranges are the most important repository of limestone formations in Portugal and this was the first reason of its classification (Decreto-Lei nº 118/79, de 4 de Maio) as a Natural Park.
Karst morphology, nature of vegetation, the network of underground rivers, a specific fauna (including in caves), and intense activity in the extraction of the stone are so some of the aspects that its classification tries to preserve.
