An old delapidated building which appears to have been a stable stands on a hillside on a Civil War battlefieldClick for related waymark to open in new window in Brandy Station, Virginia. The land where the greatest cavalry battle of the Civil War was fought in June 1863 was saved from further development by the Civil War Preservation Trust. Ofttimes when the land is preserved, it is left as is which may include any structures.

Although according to history, this area was the location of the Green Farm during the 1860s, it is highly unlikely the abandoned building is from that era. Even if it had survived the battle, it most probably would have been dismantled during the Union winter encampment of 1863-64 for the construction of huts.

While exploring the terrain and tracking the long-ago routes of the Union cavalry as it rode over the crest to attack the Confederate horse artillery, it is surprising to encounter an unknown 'ghost' from a different time.
