I just came from a trip in Middle East and Wadi Rum was probably my favorite bit. The whole place is impressive, and the jeep tours are well organized, offering an unique experience to the visitor. Actually we slept in a camp site on the desert, enjoying one of those legendary sky full of stars. It's quite a feeling to cross those valleys of sand and imagine Lawrence of Arabia riding there, bot the original and the actor Peter O'Toole, as Wadi Rum was the scenario for the action of both.
The following text was taken from Wikipedia but I do advise a visit to the link as there is further information available: (

Wadi Rum (Arabic: ???? ???) also known as The Valley of the Moon (Arabic: ???? ??????) is a valley cut into the sandstone and granite rock in south Jordan at 60 km (37 mi) to the east of Aqaba. It is the largest wadi in Jordan. The name Rum most likely comes from an Aramaic root meaning 'high' or 'elevated'. To reflect its proper Arabic pronunciation, archaeologists transcribe it as Wadi Ramm. The highest elevation in Wadi Rum is Mount Um Dami at more than 1,800 m (5,900 ft) above sea level.
