The house was built for James Frampton and is constructed from Portland ashlar. There are three bays to the front aspect and it is a grey colour when viewed from the road. The first part of the house is the service wing which was built in 1742.

This house replaced an earlier building dating to 1580.

Nearby is the grave of Lawrence of Arabia for which the village is renowned.
