These reliefs are on the portion of the memorial which honors Britain's World War II heroes. The Memorial takes the form of a semi-circular sunken garden and has the names of the dead arranged alphabetically but divided by service for specific vessels and then for the Lighthouse and Pilotage Serives and the Fishing Fleets.
The reliefs are somewhat whimsical in the context of such a memorial... mermaids and mermen, a cherub riding a dolphin, Neptune, etc. The reliefs are set on the portions of the monuments separating the lists of names by vessel.
