"A Ceredigion magistrate has stood down while authorities decide if she should keep her position after being convicted of breaking an order banning dogs on Borth beach.

Janet Owen’s protest at the county council ban on dogs on the beach has cost her £560 in fines and court costs.

But Owen, who is also a Borth community councillor, could be forced to stand down as a magistrate with the Judicial Communications Office saying her position is being considered.

A spokesperson for the JCO said:
“In light of her conviction, Owen has decided not to sit while consideration is given to the impact of the conviction on her position as a magistrate.” "
