This lion stands atop a wall that serves as a staircase from the Place de la Concorde to the Tuileries Garden at the Orangerie Museum.
The male lion is depicted on all fours and looking at the ground below the staircase. He has a curly mane...and we can also see similar curly hair on his belly. The 1806 piece is by Italian sculptor Giuseppe Franchi (1731-1806) and was placed here in 1819.
