Louis XIII est le fils d’Henri IV et de Marie de Médicis. Il épousa Anne d’Autriche, infante d’Espagne, en 1615.
Le règne de Louis XIII se confond avec l'action de Richelieu premier ministre.
En 1635, Louis XIII engagea la France dans la guerre de Trente-Ans. En 1638, au bout de 23 ans de mariage, naquit le futur Louis XIV.
A la mort de Richelieu, le roi prit pour remplaçant le cardinal Mazarin (1642). Louis XIII mourut lui-même l’année suivante.

La statue équestre de Louis XIII est un marbre réalisée en 1821 par Jean-Pierre Cortot sur un modèle de Charles Dupaty.
Elle est installée au centre du Square Louis-XIII (Place des Vosges) depuis 1825.
La statue est sur un piédestal entouré de grilles en fer forgé.
Louis XIII est vêtu en empereur romain, il porte une cuirasse sous son manteau et un glaive à son côté gauche et une couronne de laurier.
Elle a remplacé une statue de bronze commandée par Richelieu, inaugurée en 1639 et détruite pendant la Révolution.

In 1635, Louis XIII committed France in the war of Thirty Years. In 1638, at the end of 23 years of marriage, was born future Louis XIV.

The equestrian statue of Louis XIII is a marble realized in 1821 by Jean-Pierre Cortot on Charles Dupaty's model.
It is installed in the center of the Public garden Louis-XIII ("Place des Vosges") since 1825.
The statue is on a base surrounded with iron railings forged.
Louis XIII is dressed in Roman emperor, he wears a shell under his coat and a two-edged sword beside him left and a crown of laurel.
It replaced a bronze statue commanded by Richelieu, inaugurated in 1639 and destroyed during the Revolution.
