The "Edifício da Antiga Fábrica dos Tecidos de Seda" was an Old Silk factory. Today it houses the Arpad Szenes-Vieira da Silva Foundation and Museum.

Taking advantage of the implementation of Mãe de Agua das Amoreiras(a reservoir of the great aqueduct that supplied Lisbon) and in order to promote the Portuguese silk industry, the Marquis of Pombal comanded the plantation of 331 mulberry in this location, and, the surrounding buildings.
The buildings were purposely built to house the Royal College of Manufacturing, which actually consisted of small industrial units where each house of the district settled a craftsman, providing him the necessary space to live and to install a workshop with apprentices.
From the original construction remain three blocks, that maintain the original structure of Pombal buildings, rectangular blocks divided into two floors, with low ceilings in wood. In one of these houses, situated on the edge of the square Amoreiras, was installed the Silk Textile Factory (Fabrica dos tecidos de Seda). The façade boasted untill the 1990´s a large sign indicating the name of the plant.
The building it was bought in 1990 by the Arpad Szenes-Vieira da Silva Foundation that recovered it and adapted it to house the Arpad Szenes-Vieira da Silva Foundation and Museum.
