In Boston, at the corner of Stuart St. and Arlington St. is a building that has some frieze detailing at the base and top.
The sign applied to the building still states the name of the most previous occupant, the Boston Renaissance Charter School. This charter moved within the last year to Hyde Park. An article in Boston.com states that a developer wants to make the building into an apartment and retail complex.
The building has a set of flat arches and pilasters surrounding the windows and doors at the base. At the top of the building are arches supported by rounded pillars surrounding windows on the top two floors. Flanking the modern sign are two years, each flanked by designs. The year on the left is "MDCCCXXII" [1872] and "MCMXXVII" [1927]. The original occupant of the building is probably hidden behind the charter school sign. The Emporis web site states that the alternate name of the building is the Boston Consolidated Gas Building. Around these designs are square block patterns. Above the second and eleventh floor windows are ledges.
This building will have to be watched to see what develops.
