Both a painter and sculptor, Chia gained renown in the 1980's as one of a number of Post - Modernist artists who recycled images from early art periods. Here a female, shot in the back with an arrow (Cupids?), is rendered in a rough and voluptuous style echoing such Italian baroque masters as Berini.
