(PT) O Convento de São Francisco de Tomar foi fundado em 1624 por uma comunidade de frades franciscanos oriundos do cenóbio de Santa Cita, iniciando-se a construção da igreja em 1628.
Depois da extinção das ordens religiosas, o Convento de São Francisco foi entregue ao Ministério da Guerra, que aí instalou um batalhão militar.
Actualmente, a tutela do edifício é dividida entre a Ordem Terceira de São Francisco, a quem pertence o espaço do templo, e a Câmara Municipal de Tomar, responsável pela cerca e restante espaço conventual.

(ENG) The São Francisco Convent of Tomar was founded in 1624 by a community of Franciscan friars from the Santa Cita monastery, beginning the construction of the church in 1628.
After the extinction of the religious orders, the Convent of São Francisco was delivered to the War Office, which then installed a military battalion.
Currently, the protection of the building is divided between the Third Order of St. Francis who owns the space of the temple, and the Tomar Town-hall is responsible for the remaining space around the convent.
