"The Church of Our Lady of Portiuncula also known as the Parish Church of Santa Engracia or Church of Our Lady of the Portiuncula of the Convent Barbadinhos is situated in the parish of Santa Engracia, Portugal.
The Church was part of the former Convent of Barbadinhos Italianos, settled in 1738, and was completed in 1742.
Fruit of being part of that religious order, the interior of the church has a unique feature, the total absence of gilded woodwork replaced with wooden carvings done with dark wood from Brazil and a rich and valuable shrine with the door in black wood lined with gold sheet, offered by D. John V.
Outside we highlight the porch before the church entrance, with three openings to the outside all barred.
Once extinguished the religious orders in Portugal, this temple became the seat of the parish of Santa Engracia, unlike the former convent to which he belonged, whose ownership is now dispersed among several agencies and privates. The yard of the convent is a pleasant place overlooking the Tagus."
