Massanutten is one of several public boating access areas to the south fork of the Shenandoah River in Page County, Virginia. The Shenandoah is a popular destination for boating and fishing. Most of the land adjacent to the river is privately owned, but there are twenty access points open to the public. Although most are suitable for hand-launched boats such as canoes, Massanutten has a concrete boat ramp and small pier.
Public access is regulated by the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries. Signs at the entrance state that the area is for parking vehicles while hunting, fishing and boating only. All other uses are by written permit. Camping or swimming is not allowed. There is ample room for parking vehicles and trailers, but it can become crowded on weekends and during warm seasons.
There are no fees to use the boat ramp, but all boating, fishing, and hunting rules and requirements for the state of Virginia apply. For more info, see DGIF Fisheries, Wildlife, and Boating Regulations. For licenses and permits, see Virginia Hunting & Fishing Licenses.
