In Sharon, near where East Street meets Bay Road, is the Crescent Ridge Dairy. This dairy, established in 1932, is well known in the area for its excellent milk and ice cream products and has won several awards over the years.
Crescent Ridge does small batch milk processing. The source of the milk are cows from farms in St. Albans, VT (way the heck up there!). Products include several kinds of milk and ice cream. They deliver most of their milk products the old fashioned way, by truck in glass containers. They also make ice cream, which is sold in their dairy bars in both Sharon and Holbrook, as well as some grocery stores. As part of their delivery service, they also offer other products that they don't produce themselves, such as cheese and yogurt.
In 1932, Malby Parrish made his first delivery rounds for Crescent Ridge. Since then, delivery has continued with a wider offering of products. The business is still family-owned, run by Malby's son Mark.
Crescent Ridge was awarded "Dairy of Distinction" by the Massachusetts Farm Bureau and, in 2007 received the award, Massachusetts Family Business Award by the Northeastern University Center for Family Business. Its ice cream is constistently rated among the best in the area, and was named one of the 10 Best Ice Creams in the World by the National Geographic’s "The 10 Best of Everything: An Ultimate Guide for Travelers."
At this location is both the processing plant and the original Crescent Ridge Dairy Bar. Not much is visible of the processing plant from the road, mainly the shipping docks.
