This bronze work depicts a nude woman sitting on a globe with books on the ground. She has a cloth covering her right leg and she holds some type of instrument (a compass? pen?) in her right hand while pondering a chart arranged on her lap and held in place by her left hand. The artist is French sculptor Jules Blanchard (1832-1916). It is dated c. 1882.
