Artists in Springfield, Massachusetts has been devising ways of turning empty walls, created when buildings are demolished, from eyesores into objects of public art. In this case the demolished building left its mark behind. The former location of floors and stairways are clearly visible. The solution was to decorate the brick wall with silhouette figures of people going about their business as usual. Some are on the stairs, others on the floors. Two are engaged in conversation and one even is carrying an open umbrella. There are nine sheet metal figures, seven are painted orange and two are painted blue.
