Once, Again neon sculpture was created by Stephen Antonakos, a Greek-American artist with a worldwide reputation for his light sculptures displayed in public spaces and museum around the world. The design formed by the glowing lines is minimalistic but elegant. It is in sharp and purposeful contrast with commercial neon lighting. The sculpture was installed in 2001.
The name most likey comes from the fact theat the display is in two parts. The ceiling display is at two levels that are viewed, in their entirety, separately. One set of lights begins with a semicircular green light and end with a horizontal orange light. In between are four straight lights - orange and blue in the center flanked by orange and green.
As you walk down the passaway the second set of four lights comes into view. A wavy blue intersects two orange that form a right angle. A green curved light ties the blue with the orange.
It was the artist's wish that the tubes be lit all the time. According to Stephen Antonakos: “The people who live and work there will see a change throughout the hours. At night the tubes themselves will be very bright, but then in the morning and during the day, the neon recedes slightly, and reflections on the metal raceways become the emphasis, and it goes through these cycles.”
