The memorial, that stands about two metres (six feet) high is made from Portland stone. On the front is a bronze disc with a left profile of von Clemms head. Beneath this is an inscription that reads:
"Michael von Clemm // (1935 - 1997) // Investment Banker / and founder of / the Euromarkets / whose vision helped / to create this / financial centre".

Michael Von Clemm was a prominent merchant banker and financier throughout the 1970s , 80s and 90s. He was president of the huge banking corporation Credit Suisse First Boston. He was first introduced to Canary Wharf when it was still largely a derelict port in the 1980s. He saw a vision for the place that was similar to that of the converted warehouses in his native Boston. He was instrumental in the creation of the modern complex, but sadly died before he could see the idea reach actuality.
