This park features extraordinary views of the city. Originally a quarry, the park was established in 1944 as Ross Park when Hamilton MP Thomas Ross gave the land to the city. The name was changed in 1946 to Patton Park to honour George Cross recipient John MacMillan Stevenson Patton. Finally in 1960 it was renamed Sam Lawrence Park for Sam Lawrence, a Hamilton MPP and Mayor.

The park has many features including a Tulip Garden, a Rock Garden, several plaques and signs referencing the escarpments ancient history, benches, picnic tables and pavillion. There is also a connecting path to the Bruce Trail.
