The amazing dome of St. Peter's Basilica, was designed by Michelangelo.
The dome was only completed to the base when he died, and it was later finished by Giacomo della Porta in 1590.
The basilica's dome is the world's largest measuring 42m in diameter and reaching 138 meter high.
It is possible to access the upper part of dome, enjoying a view of the interior from the whispering gallery by climb the 320 steps to the top of the dome. In alternative it's possible to use the elevator.
