The Brookfield Civil War Monument is located in the north edge of Brookfield Cemetery near Route 9. A 6' zinc figure of a Union Soldier standing on a 12' by 4' by 4' multi-tiered granite base was dedicated by the Town of Brookfield on July 4, 1890.
The Union soldier is wearing a knee length coat with a cape. He is holding a rifle vertically in front of him with both hands on the barrel, right over left. The butt of the rifle rests on the base near his right foot. The base has a Corinthian unfluted column on each corner and military insignias on each side.
The front of the base has three inscriptions:

ERECTED JULY 4, 1890 BY THE CITIZENS OF
BROOKFIELD
TO COMMEMORATE THE DEEDS OF THEIR
LOYAL SONS IN THE WAR FOR THE
PRESERVATION OF THE UNION 1861-1865
TWO HUNDRED SIXTY-SIX
VOLUNTEERS WENT TO THE
CIVIL WAR FROM BROOKFIELD
1861-1865. THIRTY-EIGHT
DIED IN SERVICE
The back of the base is inscribed:
WITH MALICE TOWARD NONE,
WITH CHARITY FOR ALL.
